My good friend Skunkie was giving me crap about trying to convince her to read some books I have been recommending, because I didn’t have any reviews up on LitBit. She rightly stated that I couldn’t convince people to start reading again if I didn’t get some reviews out there to intrigue everyone’s literary curiosity. So without further ado, here is my review on Margaret Atwood’s novel Cat’s Eye: (more…)

The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky

I have to admit that I am proud of myself for making it all the way through a Fyodor Dostoevsky novel. I have begun a few of his other books like Crime and Punishment and The House of the Dead and have yet to get all the way through them. Just to provide you with a time reference, I began Crime and Punishment probably about a year and half to two years ago and have never made it all the way through. The Idiot is not like that at all. I read it in about a week/week and a half.

The novel really flowed in the beginning and was easy to get into and enjoy. While each character was unique and quirky in their own way, they are appealing or scandalous, which makes the reader easy to relate or hate them. That being the case, you instantly get drawn in to the story and want to know where it is headed from the very beginning. (more…)

My other hobbies aside from reading and writing are painting, drawing, knitting, crocheting, stitching and other stuff. The other day I was setting up my new pretty easel that I had bought about a month ago (and had yet to use) in order to start a painting of my niece for my mom. Well I had this kick ass set up going and everything was looking real nice so my roomie and friend Skunkie told me to take pictures and post a blog about it. Well here is the blog, but like a total dumbass, I accidentally deleted the pics from my camera. I know…what a dumb. So that is the story. I am now waiting for the paint to dry so I can continue with other layers (I’m using oil paints) and when I set up again to continue on I will take more pictures, NOT erase them, and then post them here for all you wonderful people to see.

I have to admit that when it comes to posting a review on a book there are so many varied interpretations as to what a review should include that I find myself struggling with it. I feel that if the review is too personal then it will not provide an effective example of the merits of the work in the technical and literary aspects, but if it is too impersonal and objective, then does it lack a little flare and uniqueness? I confess that I am stumped and find myself frustrated with every review that I have written to the point that I don’t want to post it. Perhaps I am being too self-critical and expecting too much from a free, self-run blog. I’ll have to think on it and continue to edit and revise what I have written until I am, if not happy, at least pacified with one of the reviews. Hopefully I will have one coming soon enough.
